MECHANICAL FAQs:
FAQ: On an assembly drawing, do I have to pay for all
of the sheets?
Yes, but not nessaccarily at the full cost. If a view is extended
for clarity and the drawing is otherwise not detailed, the cost
is that of the complexity of the level of attention. Generally,
at least an "A" size drawing cost will be established.
FAQ: Do you charge for small changes to drawings?
This is on a case by case basis, generally there is a small cost
involved for the paper work & document changes, but not always.
FAQ: What is geometrical Tolerance?
Geometrical Tolerance is defined ANSI Y14.5M, latest revision
update in 1994. It was created "to establish uniform practices
for stating and interpreting dimensions, tolerancing, and related
requirements for use on engineering drawings and in related documents."
[ANSI Y14.5M-1994]
It is widely used in industry at this time, particularly by Prime
Aerospace, Auto Manufacturers, and other vehicle component manufacturers.
FAQ: Do you use Geometric Tolerance?
Yes we generally do, however we do have some clients that prefer
that I don't use it or limit its use on their drawings.
FAQ: I'm not sure I want to tell you my design Idea;
I may be able to get a patent.
All of our correspondence is confidential, but we can draw or
design only what you request.
FAQ: Do I need a nondisclosure agreement (NDA)?
It depends on the product and your concerns regarding secrecy,
most companies that pay for design assistance are serious about
keeping the design proprietary. I recommend that you use a NDA
to protect you and your designs.
FAQ: Do I get a price break on multiple drawings or
large orders?
We do offer price breaks on families of drawings the first at
standard cost and following at reduced costs based on labor hours.
FAQ: I don't understand your labor rates and how they
apply to me - can you just tell me the cost to design my widget.
Here at EAN Systems Engineering, we have different labor rates
based on the varying degrees of difficulty in the design. For
example, we charge less to draft & document an existing design
as opposed to us performing the design and stress analysis on
a non existing complex widget. This helps our customers so that
they don't have to pay again for work already performed, in house
or otherwise. We can furnish a price break down based on our labor
rates & costs, and of course we can quote specific jobs as requested.
By and large, our rates are flexible and generally lower than
our competition.
FAQ: I have a whole family of drawings; do I have to
pay engineering charges on each drawing if the fatigue rates are
the same?
No, if the calculation has been done and that portion is unaffected
by the change, then no additional engineering charges are extended
to subsequent drawings. However if the calculations change as
a result of the change in geometry then we would need to look
at that. Generally this is upfront.
If an analysis is required on each configuration and we know ahead
of time, we can program the design criteria for a family of solutions
- It's less expensive this way.
FAQ: I need a gage to measure the C'Bore depth on my
drill operation.
We can make a simple gage to measure the C' Bore depth, or we
can make an automated gage to measure this depth on every part
off the line over the course of the production run. We also design
and fabricate drill fixtures for manual operations.
FAQ: Do I need to fill out this questionnaire in order
to get a quote?
Absolutely not, the questionnaires are set up so that our engineers
can better serve you in your design, If we know your equipment
and capabilities we can design around your strengths making the
design more efficient for your shop, this is an advantage in manufacturing
and it saves you money.
